Crew Forum > My Long Lost Maranacook Buddy

So, I'm sitting there last night flipping through channels and on pops the latest deadliest catch. I haven't been the most faithful follower of the show, but passively tune in. I'm watching along as the show jumps from boat to boat, crew to crew. Then who pops up? Crosby Leveen! I jumped out of my seat. What are the odds a kid I grew up with would be up there working on those boats. Us Mainers are a rare breed in our own right and deal with some hellacious conditions of our own. Crosby was a tough bird growing up, guess I'm not surprised he's cuttin the mustard on the Bering. I run a charter boat down here in Sebastian Florida sebastianfishingco.com and in the summer I run charter boats out of Seward AK. Crosby if your reading this- get in touch with me- captmark@sebastianfishingco.com, crew of crabwizard- please pass the note along to Crosby... Thanks guys- you guys are a different breed. As a charter captain (which is like playing in the tub with a rubber ducky compared to what you do) I have all the respect in the world for the conditions you deal with. And when I hear folks gripe about the price of seafood I always remind them of the true price that's paid to get it.

Crosby, your the man buddy

woasisss, In Florida we anchor up and fish the reef. We fish for Snapper (not to be cornfused with rockfish) and Grouper. Grouper are the toughest, strongest fighting fish in the ocean, bar none. We also catch a lot of the swimmers like Dolphin (mahi-mahi) Cobia, King Mackeral etc. We don't troll- so no, we don't catch Sailfish, Marlin or Tarpon. But the fish we target are all good eats. I charter down here in the winter, then go to Seward in the Summer. This summer I'll work for Last frontier adventures.com. I guide for Halibut, Silvers, Ling Cod and Yellow Eye Rockfish.

I called Mr. Leveen, and chatted it up for awhile, he gave me Crosby's cell and I left a message. We have a lot of Catching up to do. I'm hoping that our paths will cross somewhere along the trail.

Thanks for the reply and sending the msg along to Crosby. I absolutely love Alaska (it reminds me a lot of how/where I grew up in Maine) And hope to make it out to some of the other areas in my travels. Maybe I'll even get a chance to check out Dutch.

Take Care, be safe out on the water. And, I don't know if it is applicable to crabbers but "tight lines" as us rod and reelers say!

This event is soo awesome and (as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's great detective would say) "singular." I'm really happy that you found Crosby Captain Mark, and I hope that you have a safe and prosperous summer in Seward.
May your lines stay tight, your keel stay down, and yourself stay safe.
